A New Year in the Studio: Winter Mugs and Valentine’s Day Inspiration

Carrie Dawson

Newly thrown mugs.
First thrown mugs of the year!

Hi there! I hope your 2025 is off to a good start and that you’re finding a little time to

enjoy the simple things—maybe even a warm drink in a favorite mug.

As I get back into the rhythm of the studio, I’ve been reflecting on what it’s like to run a one-person pottery business. It’s a mix of excitement, hard work, and uncertainty. I never know exactly how things will go, but your support—whether it’s buying a mug, sharing my work, leaving a kind review, or following along—makes all the difference.

2024 was full of carving, glazing, and putting new ideas into the world, but the best part was hearing from you. Knowing that the pieces I make find their way into your homes and routines is what keeps me going. Your kind words always mean so much, and I wanted to share a few that have stayed with me:

"I just want to thank you for creating pieces that have so much of you in them and then in turn mean so much to those of us who get to enjoy them every day - I am so grateful I found you and that you graciously share your gift with us!"

"I think I have lost count of how many of Carrie’s mugs I have! It’s an addiction that I don’t see ending soon. Each mug is so incredibly detailed and brings me so much joy each morning when I start my day!"

"The mugs are sturdy pottery, and the detail to her artwork is absolutely amazing! Thank you, Carrie, for your amazing talent!"

"Carrie makes the most beautiful handcrafted mugs. I have purchased mugs for myself and as gifts, and they are loved by all!"

Hearing how my work brightens your days is what keeps me inspired. Of course, being a full-time potter has its challenges. Much of my time is spent carving and glazing, which takes patience and focus. And there’s always the stress of not knowing how each shop update will go. But I’m so thankful for the opportunity to create pottery that feels meaningful and finds a place in your life.

Looking ahead, I’m diving into my first collection of the year, which will focus on a theme of winter and, of course, love with Valentine’s Day just around the corner. These pieces will celebrate the warmth and connection that make this season special, and I can’t wait to share them with you.

I’m planning a shop update for early February, so stay tuned as I share my progress in the coming weeks. I’d love for you to follow along as my work takes shape.

Thank you for being here. Your encouragement and support make this all possible, and I’m so grateful to share this journey with you.

Warmly,

Carrie
