Hand-carved Stoneware Mugs inspired by the spring season.

Shop Update Spring Collection Image with Three Mugs

I am excited to offer this round of hand-carved stoneware mugs, loosely titled "Spring Collection" that includes spring flowers, dragons, bunnies, mama pig and piglets, mama bear with her cub and as always, plenty of birds.

I've recently had a fascination with carving landscapes, it started with carving snowy landscapes in my first collection of the year, "Birds that Stay" and has continued to be a trend in this spring collection.

Numerous studies have shown that exposure to natural environments can have profound effects on our well-being. I know that for me, there is nothing that makes me feel better than a hike or some time in my garden, especially when the flowers are blooming - but did you know there are also positive effects of engaging with nature-inspired art like landscapes? A study published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology found that exposure to natural environments, even through artwork, can significantly reduce stress levels and increases feelings of relaxation.

More than just aesthetically pleasing, I hope the nature inspired artwork on my pottery can also be used as a tool for mindfulness and reducing stress. I suggest the following practices that I frequently use as a tool for reducing mind chatter and centering my mind/body as I drink my morning coffee:

1. Visual focus: When you gaze upon the landscape or artwork, it provides a focal point for your attention. This visual focus helps anchor your awareness to the present moment, drawing your attention away from distracting thoughts or worries.

2. Touch: As you hold the mug in your hands, you can feel it's warmth and all of the carved lines in combination with the feel of the glossy glazes - it provide a really pleasant tactile experience that also draws your attention to the present moment.

3. Pause: Between sips, take a pause and be aware of the sensations of drinking, including the taste and aroma. By focusing on these sensations, you anchor yourself in the preset moment and can better find joy and contentment in the simple act of drinking.

I hope you've enjoyed my first official blog post and that these practices are a positive takeaway.
