Hi friends,
February is here, and I’ve been busy in the studio preparing my next collection of mugs! Everything is heading into the kiln on Tuesday morning, and as long as everything goes well, I’ll be photographing the finished pieces on Wednesday. My next shop update is set for Friday, February 7th at 8 PM EST, so mark your calendars!
This collection is full of designs that felt just right for these coldest days of the year—mugs that bring cozy and/or joyful feelings. You'll find several cat mugs, sun and moon mugs, and an assortment of birds including a crow, titmouse, chickadee, great blue heron, pileated woodpeckers, a nuthatch, and cardinals. There's also a chipmunk mug, ghosts on a date, some dog mugs, and more—really, anything that came to mind and felt right while carving.
Lately at Home
Lately, I’ve been reminding myself to find joy where I can—in small creative moments, in quiet winter days, and in the process of making. More than anything, my favorite purpose in creating pottery is the joy it brings others, and that thought has kept me going through these gray days.
Outside the studio, life has been a mix of making crafts with my daughter, painting with watercolors, drinking lots of coffee and tea and playing board games. We have been going outside when we can and doing a bit of wandering, bundled up against the cold, it feels good to be outside, even just for a bit.
What I’ve Been Listening To in the Studio
Lately, I was craving something reminiscent of Robin Hobb's books that I loved so much, and I found "The Bone Ships" by R.J. Barker. It’s the first in The Tide Child trilogy, set in a world where ships are built from the bones of ancient sea dragons. The story follows a condemned crew on a quest that could change their fate, and if you love a good sea voyage this might be one you would like.
I also revisited a favorite by re-listening to the final two books of The Lord of the Rings—and I have to say, I’ve always had a soft spot for Samwise. I think it’s because I married my own version of Sam— a kind gardener who is always up for an adventure.
Staying in Touch
While I’ll still be on social media, I’ve realized that the best way to truly stay connected is through these emails and my blog. Social media moves fast, and posts can get lost, but here, I can share more of what I’m working on, what’s inspiring me, and what’s happening in my little corner of the world. So if you want to keep up with what I’m creating both in and outside of the studio, this is the best place to do it.
That’s all for now! Keep an eye on Instagram and Facebook this week—I’ll be sharing photos and videos of what’s coming to the shop update on Friday.
Thank you, as always, for being here. Your support means so much to me!
Warmly,
Carrie
